Our History
George Grom and Dave Ingraham began OSDA in October of 1987. The business was then providing manual thru-hole services to companies that had realized there was more money to be made in concentrating on their core competencies, engineering and marketing, rather than manufacturing. This was the beginning of the EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) industry.
In 1988 OSDA decided to provide services for the new technology, SMT. It procured a Zevatech 350 pick and place, which was able to place an amazing 1500 components an hour, on a good day. OSDA kept upgrading the Zevatechs until 1992, at which time it switched to a Mydata line. This increased the output to 3,600 components per hour. In 1996 a third Mydata was procured giving us a 15,300 component per hour capacity.
In 2000 the internet began to become more common and the startup phenomenon began and introduced a flood of new products and the rapid change in technology really took over. OSDA decided to focus on quick turn to help these business’ grow, by assuring they were able to take advantage of the small window of opportunity. Attracting the attention of all the new startups, OSDA needed to add capacity. It did so by changing to a Siemen’s platform and an output of 120,000 components an hour.
Over the ensuring years OSDA added: AOI, Selective Solder, Automated warehousing, ATE, improved MRP software, point to point testing, acquired ISO 9001 and 13485, with X-Ray being the latest addition. All this additions were to support an every growing need for quick delivery and a product that worked out of the box.
